William the Conqueror

Duke of Normandy before becoming King of England after the battle of Hastings in 1066, William the Conqueror is the first Norman King of England. His journey to take upon the throne of England is told by the Bayeux Tapestry, which was probably ordered by his wife, Matilda of Flanders, daughter of Baldwin  V, Count of Flanders, and niece of Henri I of France. William I build many strongholds, including the White Tower in the Tower of London.
